Second Edition Octavo Print Gallery


These fine John James Audubon lithographs come from Birds of America, the Royal Octavo Edition, 2nd Edition. The paper size for these prints is approximately 6.5 x 10 inches. These are all authentic second edition prints produced by J.T. Bowen in 1856. Typically it is very difficult to determine the exact edition that these prints came from because there was very little done to distinguish between the different editions that were produced. Only the first edition prints can be distinguished from all the later edition prints once the prints are dis-bound from the original books they were bound into. With this particular gallery however, the entire Second edition set from 1856 was purchased so I am able to authenticate and guarantee with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) that anything purchased from this particular gallery is a second edition print. A few of these prints are actually first edition prints, and are noted as such. These prints were left overs from the first edition printing and were bound into the second edition volumes to use them up. The COA that accompanies any of these first edition prints will state that the print is a first edition print that was bound into a second edition set.
